Alaska Earthquake Information Center : 4.9 Quake Today In Anchorage – An earthquake was felt on Monday in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city and surrounding towns. The magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck at 3:24pm PDT (1:24 pm) about 10 miles southwest of Anchorage, according to observers.

There were no reports of injuries or damage, but people reported that the quake “shook strongly,” said Cindi Preller, a geologist from the center of Tsunamis on the West Coast and Alaska. The temblor was felt over a vast area in the state, including Anchorage, Palmer, Wasilla, Valdez and Homer. The quake is not expected to generate a tsunami.

In Anchorage, Lisa Withers, a witness thought a car had hit the building of her gift shop that operates within Bell Nursery, which carries a great selection of dishes and other fragile items.

“Some parts covered fell from the stands,” said Withers. “Some customers were nervous about the sound of rattling glass objects.”
